Inclusive Mindfulness and Stories of Belonging: A Live Conversation with Meghan Wills and Ralph Steele

Hi Friend,

We hope this finds you safe and well. This has been a difficult time for many of us. Yet, it has also given us all a rare and much needed opportunity for introspection.

We’re living in a historical moment. The social contract has changed and we are being asked, collectively, for a new level of awareness and cooperation. In America, George Floyd’s death led to protests and gave us all a chance to consider our personal role in the longstanding systemic inequalities that are at the heart of so much suffering, poverty and injustice.

Wherever you may be from, his personal story of an all-too-common tragedy rippled across the globe, raising awareness and causing everyone to take stock. That’s the power of the times we live in.

Those of us who have suffered from racial inequities and those of us who consider ourselves allies are seizing this moment to come together and discover how we might finally bring about lasting change.

And while these times may be painful and unprecedented, they can also be poignant, healing and even beautiful. Through authentic expression and in sharing lived experience, there is the opportunity to uplift and engender positive change.

With that in mind, we invite you to a very special online event on Monday, August 17 at 8 PM EDT:

Inclusive Mindfulness and Stories of Belonging

A Conversation with Meghan Wills and Ralph Steele

In their own words: By inviting mindfulness in our lives through meditation practices, a reflection of one's self is possible. In this introspective and reflective experience, the opportunity to investigate and utilize contemplation and discernment arises; we can then begin changing restrictive, unhealthy, and damaging patterns within our minds.

A mindfulness practice can empower us to be more skillful and intentional thus enhancing belonging and inclusivity in our communities. Through stories of belonging, we will reflect on the practice, and its effects, as we address some of or maybe even more of the following questions:

  • What is Mindfulness? What does it mean to be mindful?

  • How do you practice Mindfulness?

  • How would you describe intentions in your daily life and formal mindfulness practices?

  • What does it mean to be intersectional and inclusive from your experiences and teachings in mindfulness? OR How does mindfulness in your teachings and experiences intersect with being inclusive?

  • What do inclusiveness and Mindfulness have to do with racism, discrimination, prejudice, injustice and feelings like rage, hate, fear and anger?

  • Is there a goal in practicing Mindfulness?

  • What does it mean to you to belong to something or somewhere? What do you think belonging has to do with our human nature?

  • Can you share a story of feeling and experiencing belonging?

  • How has Mindfulness practices impacted your life and your perception of your communities experiences with it?

  • Where do I begin working with Inclusive Mindfulness and using stories in belonging?

This is a Pay-What-You-Can Event Fee ($20 suggested) - No one will be turned away for financial reasons.

100% of the event fee will be distributed evenly between the panelists.
